The non-profit Henry Ford Estate organization owns and operates Fair Lane, a National Historic Landmark property in Dearborn, Michigan. Fair Lane is the former home of Clara and Henry Ford, the founder of the Ford Motor Company. Most of the estate gardens and grounds were laid out from 1914 to 1920 by the landscape architect Jens Jensen of Chicago, noted for his regional approach to conservation and garden design, and celebrated as a leading proponent of the “prairie style” of design using native plants. Fair Lane is being revitalized as a cultural and educational hub, connecting visitors and partners to Jensen’s legacy and the Ford family’s legacy of innovation, music, and community involvement.

Slayton Arboretum at Hillsdale College
Walk through the Arb on a warm summer day or a crisp fall evening, and you’ll find students reading a favorite book. The Arb was established in 1922 when Mr. and Mrs. George A. Slayton donated 14 acres to the College. Over time, the land has developed into a 48-acre natural area, at the north end of campus. More than an outdoor laboratory for faculty and students, the Arb is also a space for wedding ceremonies, receptions, and reunions, as well as student events such as the Garden Party. Its grounds include fieldstone buildings, two stone gazebos, a children’s garden, nature trails, a waterfall, and two ponds.
